On Monday morning, first lady Melania Trump had successful kidney surgery near Washington D.C. According to CNN, Trump’s communications director Stephanie Grisham said the first lady “underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition.”
She is expected to stay at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for the rest of the week, though there were apparently no complications with the surgery. CNN reports she is the first sitting first lady to have a serious medical procedure since Nancy Reagan in 1987.
