It’s only been a couple of months since Big Little Lies ended, but the popular HBO series turned fans into detectives, searching for hints about whether there’d be another season.
Reese Witherspoon, who starred and executive produced the show, hinted that she’d be up for it. Liane Moriarty, who wrote the novel that the show is based on, also mentioned she wouldn’t be against a continuation of the story. Plus, the show itself ends with a question mark, indicating that there could be much more to come from Monterey.

And, while it’s not confirmation by any means, Nicole Kidman, also a star and executive producer, told ELLE.com just this week that she had been discussing the idea: “Reese and I and Laura Dern were together the other night and we were like, okay. So we’re working on it…. We would love to bring it to you if it’s worthy.”
But not so fast: In an interview with Ewan MacGregor for Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” series, Kidman also said that perhaps all of these discussions will remain just discussions. “It was a book, so it was pretty finite,” Kidman told her Moulin Rouge co-star. “I mean, we got the taste for it, so we’re like, ‘Oh, what a pity.’ You never know, you always hope, but there’s no story—there’s absolutely no prospects right now.”
Not exactly the news we wanted to hear. Of course, that doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. But it probably won’t be happening any time soon. Excuse us while we cry in the corner.
