For spring 2018 New York Fashion Week, theis taking their commitment to equality and justice one step further, partnering with the American Civil Liberties Union for a joint campaign called “Fashion for ACLU.”
“We want to be on the front line, not the sidelines, to boldly fight to protect our precious rights and freedoms, which has taken on a renewed urgency after the heart-wrenching events of Charlottesville,” Steven Kolb, president and CEO of CFDA said in a statement. “Our goal is to actively support concrete work that will move our country meaningfully forward. The ACLU is doing that critical work.”
As an outward expression of that philosophy, 50+ brands and designers including Adam Selman, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Everlane, Monse, Narciso Rodriguez, Opening Ceremony, Prabal Gurung, Public School and Tracy Reese will feature the “Fashion for ACLU” tagline and make use of a blue lapel ribbon in presentations.
This comes on the heels of the fall 2017 shows when the CFDA partnered with Planned Parenthood, distributing pins that read “Fashion Stands With Planned Parenthood” to designers, PR agencies, modeling agencies, influencers, fashion week locations, and press. Similarly, the idea was to raise an awareness of a institution under fire, and designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Carolina Herrera, Cushnie et Ochs, Public School, Jonathan Simkhai, Kate Spade New York, Rosetta Getty, Proenza Schouler, Mara Hoffman, Narciso Rodriguez, Milly, Prabal Gurung, Tory Burch, and Zac Posen all happily hopped on board.
